Introduction to Plant Identification
April 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Event by ALCLA Native Plants and Calgary Horticultural Society
Public Anyone on or off Facebook
This online talk will introduce you to the fundamentals of plant identification!
Through an overview of plant taxonomy (naming) and the beginning of plant morphology, such as leaf shape, arrangement, and flower structure, you will learn to recognize key features used to identify plants. You will also be introduced to several plant families and their distinguishing characteristics. The focus will be on familiar plants, including common food crops and weeds, alongside select native plants, such as roses, sunflowers, and bee balm.
Drawing on Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed’s background as a botanist and native plant specialist, this talk will highlight recognizable wild plants and help you build practical, relatable plant identification skills that you can use in everyday settings!
A Zoom link will be provided in the Sales Confirmation email.
Registration for this talk will close on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Please note: Fees paid to the Calgary Horticultural Society for talks, courses and workshops are non-refundable. The Calgary Horticultural Society reserves the right to cancel a talk, course or workshop due to low registration or instructor conflict.
